Homeowner is questioning the laws of probability after a malnourished stray feline with a familiar face sparks a family DNA mystery: '[He] appears to be a sibling to two of my cats.'

It was always known that cats are mysterious creatures, but we didn't realize just how much meowstery they bring into our lives. Just think of the scenario that you might already be a pawrent to two cat siblings, inseparable, living their best famioly life under your roof. And then, out of nowhere, a third stray with adoption pawtential appears in the same spot you adopted your previous cats from. And on top of that, this newcomer looks suspiciously just like the other two adoptees, who live the current comfy indoor cat life. That's exactly what happened to this pet-friendly family, who plans to gain the trust of the third sibling, and adopt him as well.

  • Good on the person to clarify the situation with the dog - who already lives with the couple of cat siblings. But that just goes to show how actually similar the stray cat is to the cats who already live inside the house. No wonder people confuse them with each other! If they come from the same litter, it's much more than likely that they'll look like each other. And besides, seeing the dog loving the cat this much, you know he's going to be the best big brother to the third cat as well. Dogs and cats can form great and meaningful connections with each other, and that's always wholesome.

    rnexi I can't give specifics, but look for something high-protein. Wet food is good for keeping them hydrated as well

    Pristine_Main_1224 Fed is best there's nothing wrong with Purina kitten chow. My vet feels that Purina Pro Plan is one of the better kibbles overall. Just avoid ones with corn, wheat, or soy fillers.

    kyourcanoes Honestly, one thing you can do is supplement with sardines. When my elder statesman was 19 and declining, I found that sardines were one of the few things he'd still eat, and he did pretty well on them for a few months.

    The other thing he'd always eat was chicken bones. And I know they're supposedly bad for cats, but that cat went absolutely mad for them. It was never a problem, except that he'd leave vertebrae all over the floor for me to step on.

    He was incredibly smart, and if I didn't remove the bones from my apartment immediately, he would get to them. He was absolutely diabolical. RIP Iceberg Slim. The best cat a girl ever had. No one has ever loved me more than that cat did.
